Have you noticed the increasing and overwhelming phenomenon in our culture?  Predators are all around us!  They are our celebrities and our politicians.  They are our reporters and our heroes.  They are our athletes, our coaches, and even our clergy.  They are our friends, our family members, and even ourselves.  It is difficult to think about and process this reality and this new world it feels like we are living in.  This series is about what to do and how to live with these dangers at every turn.

  • closer than you think

    MARCH 18, 2018

This week Pastor Rob invites Hopeland Director & Worship Leader Laura Markel to the stage to share her story.

Has it ever appeared to you that someone was one way, and at some point you learned their true identity was the opposite?  In the church it can be easy to think that the big bad world is outside our four walls and everyone and everything inside is good, and right, and trustworthy.  Did you know that most abuse happens at the hands of family members and or close family friends?  Have you ever noticed things in yourself that surprised you and caused concern?  This week we wrestle with this disturbing reality in a very personal way.

  • they are everywhere

    MARCH 11, 2018

This week Pastor Rob talks about the danger that lurks around every corner.

It is one thing to hear a story about the predatory behavior of someone so famous that it feels like we all know them, and a different thing entirely to witness the exact same behavior in our community.  While one of these things feels like a violation, the other one actually is.  And that is without taking steps even closer.  Jesus warns us that after he leaves perpetrators and predators will come in among us and will not spare us.  Some choose to stick their heads in the sand and pretend such things don’t exist.  Let's face this threat head on!

  • one you can trust

    march 4, 2018

Rick Rios kicks off this new series encouraging us to focus our trust on the One who won't betray us.

We all know how trusting kids are, but the longer we live, and the more we get burned, it seems like the harder and more rare trust becomes.  In fact it is difficult to find any adult, who has lived through untimely death in their inner circle, divorce or other relational turmoil, or even losing a job or the threat of company layoffs, that doesn’t have a difficult time with trust.  In some ways this helps us survive, but to completely lose trust causes us to miss out on so much.  This message is focused on God, the One we can always trust!
