Absorption

Ever heard someone say they could drink a two liter of Mountain Dew and a pot of coffee right before bed because “caffeine doesn’t affect them?”  Or how about a kid who claims he needs loud music to help him study?  Sometimes we may think we are different from the norm, but the truth is we are all more absorbent than we may realize.  The people and things we listen to, watch, and consistently surround ourselves with, have a huge impact on what we think and who we are becoming.  Certainly there could be worse earthly influences, but imagine if we were all absorbing more of Jesus!

    NOVEMBER 28, 2021

This week Pastor Rob closes out the series with some direction on WHO we are listening to.

An old saying from the computer world is Garbage In, Garbage Out!  While things are much more flexible and intuitive these days, if you put the wrong command into your computer, or say the wrong thing to your car, you are not going to get the outcome you desire.  In this very same way, if we listen to and surround ourselves with less than ideal people, places and things, they are going to shape us more than we think.  If we really want to soak in the best stuff, we have to make hard decisions in terms of our priories and start listening up more than we listen everywhere else!

  • a foregone conclusion

    NOVEMBER 21, 2021

This week Pastor Rob touches on the idea of having an open mind.

There are many things we think we know for sure.  Whether it was something we learned from our parents in the homes we grew up in, from a trusted and wise spiritual voice, or even all the key influences in our life.  If they all agree then it has to be true.  So we live our lives in a state with our ears closed, our willingness to listen diminished, and our openness to change turned off.  No matter what God may want to say, everything for us has become a foregone conclusion.  Check out this message, and discover how we can maintain our firm foundation and remain open to new things God may be up to!

    NOVEMBER 14, 2021

Pastor Rob talks about the difference perspective makes.

Have you ever watched a sporting event from the stands, or at home on your 72” 4k television, and wondered why the referees were so terrible at seeing all the things that were obvious to you?  Sometimes it is hard to see everything when you are right on top of the action with all the pressure of getting everything right on your shoulders alone.  Taking a step back can make life a lot easier, and the same is true with our perspective.

    november 7, 2021

This week Pastor Rob speaks to the things we allow to be an influence in our lives.

The older we get the more we tend to believe that things have less influence on us than they once did.  So we can eat what we want, drink what we want, listen to what we want, watch what we want, and spend time wherever and with whomever we want.  Because, as the saying goes, "you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”  So we think we only ever become more and more stable.  We feel like we influence more than we are influenced.  Let's discover what God has to say about all this.  Hopefully our spiritual maturity is on the rise, but part of that is knowing just how absorbent we are.
